Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike has rewarded players and officials of Rivers United with a sum of N500,000 each for emerging second in the concluded NPFL season, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
At a grand reception ceremony at Government House, Port Harcourt, Wike also said the team's head coach, Stanley Eguma, will take home N1m while other management staff of the club will receive N500,000.
He also donated a luxury bus to the supporters club of Rivers United to ease their transport problems.
Completesportsnigeria.com can also exclusively report that governor Wike gave the club a blank cheque for their 2017 CAF Champions League.
To ensure that the team win the continental trophy next year, Governor Wike approved an European pre season camping for Rivers United, mentioning specifically Real Madrid of Spain as their camping site.
"I'm a Real Madrid fan, I don't hide it. They are a club that always win trophies every season," Wike stated.
"It is either they win the La Liga, Cope Del Rey or the UEFA Champions League.
"So I've told you to prepare in the best way to ensure you won the CAF Champions League next year."
Wike was presented several awards by the club on the night as well as the supporters club for his support during the season.
He congratulated Imama Amapakabo for leading Rangers to a first league trophy in 32 years but stressed Rivers State has no plans to recall him.
"As far as I'm concerned, Rivers State won the first and second positions in the league.
"Friday night when I spoke with my Enugu State counterpart, I told him not to be afraid that we're not recalling Imama.
"For now he should be there until any time in future when we may want him," Wike.
