The win left the eagles on 3 points, 2 points ahead of their other group rivals, Algeria and Cameroon who played out a 1-1 draw in the other group game.

Mikel who had an impressive outing in Ndola says the maturity in Eagles camp gives the team an edge over their rivals.

“I have belief that we can reach new heights with this team. The boys are so committed that it makes you happy. The coaching crew is made up of very matured and brilliant people who respect the players. We are onto a good thing.”

Nigeria won a competitive away game for the first time in 23 months as Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho scored before Collins Mbesuma pulled one back in the Zambian Copperbelt capital.

Their next game is at home to Algeria in November.
If the Eagles Qualify, it will be country’s fifth ever World Cup after only missing out on the 2006 edition since making their debut at USA 1994.
