Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi says he is confident that the team will qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The eagles who were placed in a tough qualifying group but started on a good note with 2-1 victory over Zambia.
The win left the eagles on 3 points, 2 points ahead of their other group rivals, Algeria and Cameroon who played out a 1-1 draw in the other group game.
Mikel who had an impressive outing in Ndola says the maturity in Eagles camp gives the team an edge over their rivals.
“I have belief that we can reach new heights with this team. The boys are so committed that it makes you happy. The coaching crew is made up of very matured and brilliant people who respect the players. We are onto a good thing.”
Nigeria won a competitive away game for the first time in 23 months as Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho scored before Collins Mbesuma pulled one back in the Zambian Copperbelt capital.
Manchester City of England prodigy Iheanacho has now scored in each of his last four matches for Nigeria: against Mali in France; Luxembourg in Luxembourg City; Tanzania in Uyo and; Zambia in Ndola.
Their next game is at home to Algeria in November.
If the Eagles Qualify, it will be country’s fifth ever World Cup after only missing out on the 2006 edition since making their debut at USA 1994.
