The Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, on Tuesday, admitted that the leader of the Boko Haram sect, Shekau, has not been killed contrary to many claims of his death by the government in the past. He also said it has been difficult arresting the sect leader because the insurgents normally wear masks to conceal their identities and divert attention.

Akwa Ibom Govt Putting Measures To Create 20,000 jobs For Youths

Akwa Ibom State Government is putting measures in place to create over 20,000 jobs for youths in the state through investment in cocoa project, seaport and entrepreneurial development. Governor Udom Emmanuel made this known while addressing indigenes on the aegis of Akwa Ibom State Community, AKISCOM, in Lagos. He said that the government was doing a lot on the seaport to ensure that the potentials within the coastal line, which is a major asset to the area, is fully utilised to enhance economic growth and development.

Manchester City fined £35 000 over Liverpool protest

Manchester City have been fined £35 000 ($44 000, 40 000 euros) by the Football Association for a failure to control their players against Liverpool earlier this month. Ex -Senate President Nnamani Scold Fayose For ‘Senseless Criticisms

The Senator Ken Nnamani-led Electoral Reform Committee’s maiden public hearing yesterday began in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. Nnamani criticised Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose for “engaging in a brand of criticism that does not require intelligence to carry out”. He added that Fayose’s criticisms lack wisdom and infringed on people’s  rights and freedom of association. The former Senate President spoke during a stakeholder’s forum at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta. Fayose had dismissed the committee as a body whose efforts at electoral reform in Nigeria is “dead on arrival”. The governor, who was represented by a member of the House of Assembly, Idowu Omotoso, had criticised the committee and called on the chairman to resign on the grounds that  he was a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Herdsman Rapes 70-Year-Old Widow In Ebonyi State

Women from Isu community in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on Wednesday stormed Abakaliki to protest the activities of Fulani herdsmen in the area, particularly the rape of a 70-year-old widow. The women carried placards with different inscriptions such as ‘Fulanis have destroyed all our crops and polluted our rivers and ponds’, ‘Fulanis have humiliated us’, among others. They alleged that a herdsman raped a 70-year-old widow, resulting in her going into a coma.

Police recovers the body of Dr Allwell Oji who committed suicide, family members identifies the body

  The officers of the Lagos state Police Marine have recovered the body of Dr Allwell Oji who committed suicide on March 19th, 2017 by jumping into the lagoon from third mainland bridge.   The body was discovered at about 4:00 pm on Wednesday, March 22nd, 2017 around the CMS area of the lagoon . The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, said members of the late doctor’s family have identified the body.

Governor Al-Makura’s Son To Face Manslaughter Charge

Mr. Khaleel Umar Al-Makura, the son of Nasarawa state governor, Umar Al-Makura, is to to be prosecuted for alleged manslaughter. He was arrested over the killing of a student of Government Secondary School, Lafia. The police say that Khaleed would be charged soon. The killing of Ovye Amos in a road accident on Monday night had sparked a protest in the school. The students took to the streets on Tuesday carrying placards with various inscriptions demanding justice for the killing Amos, a Junior Secondary School two student. The police, officers of the Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps, teachers and government officials intervened to calm the students. The governor’s son was reported to have hit the deceased with a car, Channels TV reported.   A suspected Boko Haram kingpin, Adenoyi Abdulsalam, has been arrested by a joint team of the Department of State Services and the military in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state. A statement issued today Wednesday by an operative of the service, Tony Opuiyo, said that an Ak-47 rifle was recovered from the suspect who is presently undergoing investigation.

Approximately one in four children worldwide will live in regions with extremely scarce water resources by 2040, UNICEF said in a report Wednesday. The Agency noted that drought and conflict are factors behind water scarcity in parts of Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan and Yemen, the report says. $406.8M SUIT AGAINST SHELL: FG TO AMEND STATEMENT OF CLAIMS

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday granted leave to the Federal Government to amend its statement of claims in a suit filed against Shell Western Supply and Trading Ltd over crude oil shipment resulting in revenue loss of about $406.8m.
